Cadence's PhilosophyThere are two main theories that guide our counselling and psychotherapy work: humanism and integrative practice.
Humanistic psychotherapists will really try and understand a client's world so that they can make sense of the client's experiences, walk together with them through the issues, and facilitate healing. They provide non-judgemental, warm support and are real with clients. At Cadence, we believe that people are intrinsically good - they have great capacity to love, to be creative and to be adventurous and we think these are key ingredients to living big, full lives. However, sometimes things get hard and that capacity gets clouded . We might face bereavements, break-ups and relationship issues. Our career and family life might be complicated or stressful. We might feel sad, depressed or anxious. We may be in transition and face big life-decisions, or just feel stuck in a rut. Integrative psychotherapists develop models to work with clients based on a combination of psychological and therapeutic theories - we 'integrate' these. Some of the theories we really value working with are clients' attachment styles, psychosynthesis, and how social context interacts with mental health. |
Who we areCadence was set up by Aoife Ruth - a humanistic and integrative psychotherapist. She abides by the ethical codes of both the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapists (IAHIP). Aoife is passionate about mental health and assisting people to live bigger, fuller lives. As well as working with a diverse group of clients, she is also dedicated to working closely with musicians and others working in the entertainment industry. As an academic, she has also researched extensively on ways to better facilitate mental health for musicians.
